The Frogs

There once were a group of frogs who had all the riches while the rest of the animals were poor. Their life was one of gluttony and greed and they kept their money on a nest of reeds in the middle of a lake. Sometimes the other animals considered revolution, but never had the nerve.

Time passed and the starving animals found ways to survive. However, the frogs became unhappy.

‘It seems, dear frogs, we haven’t been making as much money as we should be. We need more.’

The frogs agreed. So they raided the land, plundering the last of what the other animals had scraped together and dragged it back to the reed nest in the lake.

The animals discovered that where before they had little, now they had none. It was agreed that since there was nothing to be lost, they would rebel. They marched to the lake and surrounded it. The frogs took fright and jumped in the lake and dashed to the reed nest in the middle. The nest, already low in the water from the heavy weight of gold, began to sink even lower when the frogs jumped on. The stronger frogs tried to beat off the weaker frogs but it was to no avail as there were too many. Soon the reeds, frogs and money sank to the bottom of the lake. The animals wept at the loss.

Too much greed loses all.
